Haunted past

Jefferson County is boasts more than a dozen ghost towns, mostly due to the gold rush and the transportation routes that developed as a result.
Nothing is left of most of the towns, according to John Steinle, history education supervisor with Jefferson County Open Space. Some of the communities flourished, but others faded away.
