The Jefferson County Planning Commission voted 5-2 on June 13 to approve a proposed slash-burning site at Jeffco’s Shaffers Crossing Road and Bridge shop.
The slash site would be part of a larger renovation of the shop.
Residents who attended the meeting opposed the project, citing concerns about fire safety and air quality. They complained that the community wasn’t notified in time to rally at the meeting.
Planning commissioners Nancy Ferguson and Larry Anna voted against the project.
The site, north of Parker Road and U.S. 285, currently houses a county Road and Bridge unit and much of its equipment.
The decision does not require approval from the Board of County Commissioners.
